Happy New Year! It’s Farah Allen, CEO and Founder of The LABZ.
As I reflect back on 2018, we developed The LABZ as a collaboration tool in an effort to protect, automate ownership and make the process of collaboration and organization seamless. We intend for The LABZ to become the music industry standard tool that puts trust back into every creator’s hands whether you are a songwriter, producer, musician, or an indie artist.
In only 7 months we welcomed 12 new team members and more than 4,320 new beta signups to the The LABZ family, bringing our headcount of 22 partnerships and our community pipeline to 4.5M. We are very excited for the opportunity to help creators collaborate safely all in one workspace!
Here’s how we did it: We determined whether creators would even use our tool. To assist with this process, we began conducting beta focus groups to test our development, implement suggestions about the platform and have learned invaluable lessons along the way to make your workflow of collaboration easy and fun.
We hit the road. Myself, along with members of my team attended over 40 events and technology conferences, not only to pursue investment opportunities as a startup but to also showcase our innovative platform and it’s awesome capabilities. A highlight was winning “The Future of Music Tech” exhibit at Atlanta’s A3C Conference and Festival where we were 1 out of 5 chosen in the world to present our platform to a panel of music industry veterans and hip-hop icons.
People started to take notice. We garnered press coverage from media outlets nationwide and were contacted for interviews which further expanding our brand. Check a few of them out below:

To close out the year, The LABZ also won a $10,000 grant at the Fall 2018 Startup Runway and then I was honored to be awarded AJC’s 2018 Woman Of The Year in Technology which definitely ended our year with a bang!
Here’s what’s coming next:
Officially launching in March 2019. We can’t wait to show off our collaboration workspace which includes such as our lyric writing module, contributor ownership automation, audio uploading, data storage, tracking, documentation generator, private profile URL, public profile URL, unlimited workspace copyright registration and more!
Launch hashtag campaign for creators. There’s been a lot of talk lately from hip hop artists such as Jay-Z, Nipsey Hussle, Fat Joe, 21 Savage and Chance The Rapper on the importance of “ownership” and “owner your masters”. We’ve developed our new campaign for our users called “Own Your Creativity” to provide education and assistance on this very topic as a way to also introduce The LABZ as a part of the creative process at its genesis. If you are a creator and would like to be a part of our social community, please tag #ownyourcreativity and mention us @thelabz_tech while in the studio or collaborating with other creators. We’d love to showcase you using The LABZ’s workspace.
Activating our pipeline. As development has been our primary focus, we plan to begin activating all of the wonderful lasting partnerships with organizations that support the music community. Our company has fostered relationships with education organizations, distribution companies, publishing companies, record labels and more. Making the world a safer place for creatives is a big effort of The LABZ.Special thanks to our channel partners and organizations that participated in beta testing Indie Hitmakers, MEG, Writing Sessions of America, Women in Music – Atlanta Chapter, Digital Undivided, The Farm – Comcast NBCUniversal, TMI, A3C Conference and Festival, CryptoRitas, and ATDC Georgia State.
